The Counselor Education program will host a series of informational meetings for individuals interested in the Counselor Education Program. At these sessions, you can meet program faculty and students, tour our facilities, and learn about our program and our profession. All sessions will be held in the PAES Building (305 Annie & John Glenn Avenue), on the 4th floor. You do not need to make a reservation to attend these events.

    • 8 year accreditation (highest allowable amount) for all three programs

  • Licensure Pass Rate
    The OSU Counselor Education Program once again has the highest possible passing rate on the Professional Counselor Licensure Exams.

    • LPC Exam:
      • The national pass rate for the National Counseling Exam or NCE – (for licensure as an LPC, or Licensed Professional Counselor) is 78%
      • The Ohio State University pass rate (on the first try!) for the National Counseling Exam is 100%
    • School Counseling Exam
      • The Ohio State University pass rate for the School Counseling Exam is 100%

Students & faculty with each of these strengths will be celebrated each week.   • Congratulations to doctoral student Shelby Coen, presenter with OSU Suicide Prevention Program Assistant Director Laura Lewis (M.A. 10), and Mike Carrell, OSU Assistant Vice President & Director for Military & Veterans Services, on the topic “Stronger Together: Office Collaboration to Promote Suicide Prevention for Military Affiliated Students” at the NASPA Symposium on Military-Connected Students in Las Vegas in February.

Congratulations to Dr. Brett Zyromski, who received the Herman Peters Award at the All Ohio Counselors Conference. This award is presented to “one who promotes innovative ideas and theories in the counseling field and has a significant impact on future trends.” Dr. Zyromski is pictured here with his parents, who were able to attend the awards ceremony.

 

  • Congratulations to Drs. Brett Zyromski & Colette Dollarhide, alumni, Dr. JP Oehrtman (Ph.D, ’18) & Halley Clarke (M.A. ’17), and doctoral student Sarah Geiger on the publication of a manuscript about complex trauma in the Journal of Humanistic Counseling.

    Congratulations to Dr. Darcy Haag Granello who was interviewed and featured in the October 2018 issue of Counseling Today, the magazine of the American Counseling Association. The cover story is an article about working with clients who are suicidal, and is on pages 18-25 of the issue, with the interview on pages 24-25. Direct link to the story.
  • Congratulations to Dr. Colette Dollarhide, on the publication of her new book, Theories of School Counseling for the 21st Century, with Oxford University Press.
  • Congratulations to Dr. Colette Dollarhide, who was promoted to FULL PROFESSOR!
    Doctoral Student Damon Drew was quoted in the New York Times on August 2, 2018. Damon spoke about the SMART Lab, created by Dr. Paul Granello, as a method to help today’s college student’s cope with the stress they are facing in college.   • Counselor Education Faculty, staff, and alumni participated in the Ohio Opioid conference. Professor Susan Sears

The OSU Counselor Education Program is deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. Susan Jones Sears, Professor Emeritus, in spring 2012. Dr. Sears was an inspiration to the entire counseling profession and a leader in both clinical mental health and school counseling.
